Top 10 Tips for Black Friday Shopping
______________________________________________________
Top 10 Tips for Black Friday Shopping
- Research: start your Black Friday research on Thanksgiving day or earlier.
- Make a plan: identify what you want to buy, what stores you need to go to and what time they open.
- Timing is everything: arrange stores by opening time from early to late.
- A fool and his money: be wary of Black Friday deals with quantity limits. If a store only has 10 items at that price, go elsewhere.
- Visualize: know where your items are in the store.
- Stay disciplined: no impulse buys (not this year) - stick to your plan!
- Power of numbers: go with a team and attack separate stores or separate sections of the same store. Designate a meeting place.
- Bring a snack: only amateurs stop at the food court on Black Friday! (Or the bathroom - so go before you leave.)
- The quiet ones: don't ignore stores that don't advertise. They will have deals too!
- Have fun: enjoy your family, friends and deals!

Another Way to Help in Palestine
Here's an email I got from my friend Natania. It's not fashion related, but it is a worthy cause!
Assalamu Alaykum,
I am emailing you all today in hopes that I can gather at least a handful of willing people to help me in this initiative to help a few families in Palestine. As you all know one of the most detrimental parts of their struggles is the economic crisis and flat out lack of an economy. Parents cannot provide food for their children, the poverty rates are shocking in the West Bank and even more so in Gaza.
Palestinians have just completed the Olive Harvest for this year and alhamdulliLah have an abundance of fresh zaytoon (olives) and zayt zaytoon (olive oil).A shipment of both olives and olive oil to arrive in So Cal by Dec/Jan.They have sent them in hopes of starting a market here for Palestinian foods and goods. Both are of the freshest quality and their taste is like nothing you could buy in the markets here. Palestine is known for the olives it produces, there are hills and hills of olive trees covering this beautiful land. Olive trees, for many families, are their sole source of livelihood and often, Israeli aggressors will uproot their trees as only another means to oppress the people.

Both the olives and olive oil are sold by "Tank" which translates into 16 liters/ 4.2 gallon and a weight of 16 Kilos/ 50.0 lbs.
Fresh Olives are $75 / tank
Fresh Olive Oil is $125 / tank
There is a delivery fee of $45 due to the costly method of exporting these items. They have asked that you pay for the purchase of the "tank" now and then the delivery fee will be collected once you receive your item(s).
Look at your purchase as not a stop at the grocery store, but an investment into the Palestinian economy that is so desperate for customers. The prices are very reasonable and honestly, probably much cheaper than anything you would pay here for the quality and quantity of these items. Insha'Allah we can sell everything they have sent to us and not have to return anything to them...I know many of our families are capable of helping out. Please sell this email to your parents and pass it on to family, friends, and whomever else you know who would like to help this initiative.
To place an order or for any more information, you can email me at natania.a@gmail.com

The Warehouse Sale
I'm so excited because my friend Natania just sent me an email about this great warehouse sale going on. It's RSVP only so I went on the website to sign up an found out that they do events like that all the time! Here's what they're all about:
"The Warehouse Sale is an exclusive, invite-only denim sample sale that offers the newest and hottest styles of the season in your favorite brands for both Men & Women. Get ahead of the trends and be the first to rock up-and-coming labels. With everything priced BELOW WHOLESALE, we make it easy for you to try new styles or brands without guilt."

The sign-up process is pretty simple, you go to their website, and click on "Sign Up" on the right. Then fill out the info and select the cities you'd like to subscribe to. For us So-Calians theres San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, and Santa Barbara.
That's it! When an event is scheduled for your area they send you an invite and all you have to do is RSVP and show up. You can't get in without an RSVP so be sure to sign up if you want to go.
Currently, there's a Citizens of Humanity Sample Sale going on November 22nd and 23rd in Orange County, and a Warehouse Sale on December 14th in Los Angeles. Both events start at 10 am, but the site says to arrive early cause the lines are LONG! Or, you can pay a small fee and get VIP early entry to avoid the crowds.
Thanks again for the tip Natania!

American Apparel Circular Scarf
Yep, American Apparel now has the Unisex Circular Scarf ($28) which, true to form, can be worn in a dozen different ways:

Love it! To wear as an actual hijab, the site says to "double loop around neck, and pull excess fabric in the back over head as a hood." Cute, comfy, and casual!

I would actually try style number four - scarf with hood - with a headband under.
Check out "Ways to Wear it" at the American Apparel site.

Obey
In my last post, I talked about my latest obsession, Obey by Shepard Fairey. I did a little research, and was blown away by his designs. He's based right here in LA too! Here are some of my favorites:

Peace Woman

Revolutionary Woman With Brush

Muslim Woman

Peace Mujer

Mujer Fatal

Commanda

Arab Woman
He's pretty damn amazing. I love how he has this reoccuring theme of Arab/Muslim/ethnic women, it's always great to be portrayed in a positive light.

The 13th Annual Arab American Day Festival
The 13th Annual Arab American Day Festival is going on this weekend!! The 7th, 8th ,and 9th of November at The Village Green Park in Garden Grove.
The address is 12762 Main st. Corner of Standford & Euclid, Garden Grove CA 92840, click here for directions and a map.
Aside from all the great food and music, there are TONS of vendors selling great stuff you can't get anywhere else! Although the thought of a gazillion Arabs packed into the park can be somewhat claustrophobic, it's pretty fun. It's mostly families during the day and later at night the dancing can get crazy, but if you go in the early evening it's just right!
Go to http://www.aafestival.com for more info.

New Openings
I know, I know it's been foeva-eva. But not to worry, I've been poking around for more hijabulous finds! Some new store opening that I super excited for:
Montclair Plaza
H&M (self explanatory... do I really need to post more pictures of all the amazing stuff H&M sells for hijabis? No? Ok, moving on)
Sidecca: This is a pretty cool/weird store. They pretty much have every basic tee you could ever want. In every color (literally), check it out:

That's a lot of freakin' cardigans man, and the price is pretty sweet:

And the long sleeve tees, a must have, 2 for $18:

Victoria Gardens Mall
American Apparel: This store isn't open yet, and though I'm not a fan of spending $26 for this Sheer Jersey Long Sleeve T when you can get 2 for $12 at Forever 21, it's pretty awesome for those hard to find colors when you're shopping for a Eid outfit the night before and are on the brink of a fashion disaster.

Cache: This store I'm actually feeling kinda lukewarm about. It's more for women in the 30-40 age group, but they did have some nice things, like this Mandarian Collar Gold Foil Dress.
Metropark: Ok so this place isn't really that new. It's been around for a couple of months, but I never went in before today. They have tons of cool brands, my favorite and latest obsession is Obey, check this out:

There's a freakin' hijabi in this Four Photo Bandana, lower right corner!
