Spotlight: Artizara

I've been browsing Islamic clothing websites recently and haven't really been seeing anything that I would wear. Most everything's too boring/plain or tacky/fobby. It is a pleasant surprise when I find some things that are super cute. Artizara has some really nice dresses and tunics, check it out:

I'm especially loving the Michal Gown, reminds me of ancient Egyptians! As with all websites, there are some pretty gnarly looking outfits, but if you hunt around you'll find some pretty cute stuff.

Hangin' Around

If you're like me and you love fashion, you know that there's only so much closet/drawer space before things start to... overflow. This Komplement Multi-Use Hanger from Ikea has 28 rings to hang your hijabs in all nice and neat. I hang it on an over-the-door rack like this one from Target right behind my door for easy access. Best part is, it's only $7.99! Gotta love Ikea :)

Eid Prayer

Eid is on Wednesday, so start looking for you Eid outfits NOW (if you haven't already). I usually get mine 1-2 months in advance. Sounds crazy, but this way, no one ever has the same outfit as me. And you know there's nothing worse than running around the mall the night before Eid trying to find a decent outfit and having the stores close down while trying to find the perfect shoes. Get it done, and relax :) Happy shopping and good luck everyone!

Up till now, I've been featuring mainstream stores with hijabi-friendly fashions. I thought it would be nice to have a list of stores who feature specifically Islamic clothing. I had to ask around since I don't really shop at those types of stores, but it's good to know where they are in case of a fashion crisis.

Maxi-mize Your Dress

Maxi dresses are all over the place, which is great for us hijabis (and just in time for Eid). As usual, you can find great stuff in the Fashion District of Downtown LA, but for those of us who hit the malls, here are my current faves:

This Belted Halter Paisley Maxi Dress from Bebe is really cute and flowy. At $169 it's a bit pricey for me, but who could resist?


Here's another great Bebe dress. I usually don't shop in stores like this, but lately everything there has been so gosh darn cute. This Smocked Top Leopard Halter Maxi Dress is on sale for $76.99!


For something a little more causal, Jaloux has great cottony dresses. This Mod-like Halter Dress is only $37.99. There are currently only two Jaloux locations, and luckily one is next to my house.

Forever 21 has some nice dresses too. This Beaded Halter Maxi Dress is a steal for $24.80.

Since I'm not a fan of the long sleeved shirt under spaghetti/halter/tube top, I usually wear a little jacket or vest over the dress. It's a nice way to layer and add some color/texture to your outfit without looking too fobby.

Modern Hijab Tie Styles by Marwa Hamed

I've had this book since forever and I've been meaning to scan images and post them, so it's about time. I got it from a hijab store called The Tie Shop in Egypt a couple years back. I don't necessarily follow the exact steps (partially because I'm too lazy to read the Arabic instructions), but it's good to look at to get inspiration.
